About our Council

The Northside Knights of Columbus was established in April of 1913. In the early years the council was involved with St. Joseph Orphanage continuing our founder, Fr. McGivney's work. The council's first meetings were held at the orphanage and we helped the orphans and other church, school, patriotic and charitable work. Northside and other councils held the annual picnic at the orphanage. Northside Council actually held a raffle and gave away a car which was a pretty new machine in the 1910's and cost a lot of money. Our first Grand Knight was M.J. Flynn. By our 10th anniversary, we had over 1,000 members and we purchased and moved our council to 4400 Hamilton Ave. The Northside Knights continued to be an active supporter of St. Joseph Orphanage for many years. In the 1970's, the members of the council started a bingo with the proceeds being used to continue our charitable work. At this time, the opportunity to purchase land on Blue Rock Road was available and the council saw the opportunity to continue our support of youth sports. Our present Sports Complex was dedicated in August of 1980. As the residents of Northside evolved and more people were moving to the suburbs, we moved the council hall to 6060 Hamilton Avenue in College Hill in the 1990's. The hall was not very conducive for growth of the council because it was looked at as being a bingo and reception hall and was not very family friendly. We built our present council hall on the property on Blue Rock Road and it was dedicated in 2001. We continue to carry on Fr. McGivney's vision with our help in the community with the support of youth sports, right to life, catholic school tuition assistance, and citizens with developmental disabilities.
